What to do in Ischia

What to do and see in Ischia? Here we list the main attractions to visit.

Ischia is a wonderful island and there is so much to do that a single visit is never enough to enjoy all the beauty it could offer.

We invite you to read the original article written by Alessia Peraro for We are Travel Girl where we are mentioned.

1) VISIT SANT'ANGELO

Sant’Angelo is the most exclusive place on the island. It is a pedestrian village, an oasis of silence where the chirping of birds and the sound of the sea give the perfect atmosphere for a dream vacation.
Here you can find VIPs and bloggers from all over the world that love Sant'Angelo and all its fancy shops and restaurants.
The Romantica Resort & Spa is located 5 minutes far (walking distance) from the famous Piazzetta of Sant'Angelo and for our lazy guests, we offer a free shuttle service at scheduled times.

2) SORGETO BAY

Sorgeto is one of the main attractions of the island. It is famous throughout the world for its natural thermal pools in the sea where it is possible to take a "hot" bath even in the middle of the winter season. We advise you to be careful entering the pools as some areas are literally boiling.
It is possible to reach the bay by land by taxi or car, or by sea taking from the port of Sant'Angelo a taxi boat of the firm Cooperativa San Michele (our partners for many years). We suggest this last alternative for convenience and because it is an experience not to be missed in Ischia.

3) WALK TO EPOMEO (MODERATE DIFFICULTY)

The Epomeo mountain is a place full of charm and mystery due to the many legends about it.
Moreover, it is undoubtedly the best place to admire the island and all its bays. Trusting in a day of good visibility, you will see the entire Sorrento Coast, the Gulf of Naples and the Lazio coast. The Romantica Resort & Spa organize a weekly trip to the top during the low season but it is possible to go up with a specialized guide (CAI) with our partner Nemo. Moreover, If you like it, we are able to organize a horse ride to the hill.
From the Romantica Resort, it is possible to reach the mountain by car, taxi or CS line bus till to Serrara Fontana and then go up to the top!

4) SUNSET TIME AT SOCCORSO CHURCH

It is one of the most beautiful places in Ischia. It is located in Forio on the sea and it is definitely is a charming and romantic place.
We suggest you go there to admire the sunset hoping to see the famous Ischia Green Flash.
From the Romantica Resort, it is possible to reach it by car, taxi or bus line CD or line 1 till to the port of Forio. From there walk through the city center to get to the church.

5) THE BOTANIC GARDENS OF ISCHIA

Among many things, Ischia boasts two botanical gardens that are truly famous throughout the world and of rare beauty:

  • Giardini La Mortella: is a garden of Mediterranean and subtropical specimens. It was created by the Walton family and designed by the illustrious architect Russell Page. La Mortella is a place of infinite charm and a wonderful concert venue for classical or jazz music and theatrical performances.
  • Giardini Ravino: A Garden of succulent plants from every corner of the world that in Ischia have found a perfect habitat, a true rarity of our planet.

Both gardens are located in Forio and can be reached from our Resort by car, taxi or bus with line 1 or CD.

6) TAKE A FOTO OF THE "MUSHROOM OF LACCO AMENO"

It is a rock of green tuff that collapsed from Mount Epomeo due to a volcanic eruption. Over time it took this name because of its mushroom shape due to sea and wind erosion.
There are many popular legends about the famous rock. The most accredited is by the Ischitan writer Giovangiuseppe Cervera, who tells the story of two young lovers who to escape from families that were averse to their love, they fled in the sea losing their lives.
Thus mother nature erected this rock as a mound in their memory, so that the alcove of her umbrella could watch over their rest forever.
Il Fungo is located in Lacco Ameno and can be reached by car, taxi or bus with line 1 or CD line from the Romantica Resort.

7) VISIT THE ARAGONESE CASTLE

ph: Giulia Piro

The Aragonese castle is the most important historical building of the island. The castle was built in 474 BC. as the stronghold of the island.
Today it is possible to visit it with guided tours or privately. Moreover, it is the location of the Ischia Film Festival.
Several films have been shot at the castle which is also a breathtaking location for civil weddings.
The Castle has a torture museum, an art gallery and an ancient convent with a cemetery.

The thermal waters of Ischia are famous for being unique in the world. In fact, thanks to the mining composition of the subsoil and the sea infiltrations, our thermal waters have truly special properties.
The island boasts 29 basins and 103 thermal springs. Each of them has unique features. This feature makes each Thermal Park different from the other, therefore we suggest you visit all of them. The Romantica Resort has a beautiful and famous internal Thermal Park.
